It’s what seems like a long time since I wrote Fifty Shades of Grey Tentacles (actually just eight months.) But to be honest, it’s always been one of my favorite pieces. It’s a mixture of erotica and satirical humor that deals with gender roles and a ‘what would happen’ angle, if an Earth female began a relationship with an alien (obviously of the billionaire variety) who finds women very hard to understand… more so than Earth men usually do, I mean.
So I was more than a little surprised when I only yesterday found out it had not only been nominated in the ‘eFestival of Words’ best erotica category, but is also now a finalist!
‘The eFestival of Words Best of the Independent eBook Awards is a peer-nomination program designed to recognize the wonderful talent in the independent publishing community. We processed over five hundred ballots for the 2013 program. Ballots were submitted by authors, editors, designers, librarians, book reviewers, and small press publishers.’
I honestly don’t expect to win, but I’m just so happy that the story stood out. I can’t call it anything close to romance, erotic romance ‘perhaps’. I should point out that I’ve never actually read the original ‘Fifty Shades Trilogy’ (okay, I did peak at the sample once,) But I was never going for something the same, although of course I’ve read enough about the series (you just can’t not end up reading something about it anywhere you go online as a writer,) and added in some elements that were particularly interesting for the two main characters to have to deal with.
It couldn’t have come at a nicer time really, as I’ve been working on the cover for a part two, but was thinking ‘well, how far can satirical tentacle erotic romance really go?’ The answer is, a lot further than I ever expected!
